Defunct American record label, established early 1957, sold 1962, but later revived for reissues. For bootleg and counterfeit releases mimicking official End releases, please use [l782596]. For company credits, please see [l=End Records] and [l=End Music Inc.] [b]End[/b] was established in 1957 by [a=George Goldner] as a label for his growing list of artists whose doo-wop or emerging R&B styles did not 'fit' his [l=Gone Records] label. One such group, signed and managed by Goldner's protegé [a=Richard Barrett (5)], was [a=The Chantels]. Their first single, on End 1001 was "[m=605369]." Barrett then wrote and featured on their hit "[m=241037]," released in December 1957. Two further chart-making groups were signed in 1958, [a=The Flamingos] and [a=Little Anthony & The Imperials]. [b]End[/b] was sold to [l=Roulette Records] in 1962. Prior to the sale, the "grey dog" labels had a pale grey background. In 1961, "A Product of [l=End Music Inc.] New York, N. Y.," was added at the bottom of the label. After 1962, this label became pale blue, known as the "blue dog" label, which had "A Division of [l=Roulette Records, Inc.]," at the bottom of the label. Subsequent issues were on the Roulette label until the late 1970s, when reissues by Roulette featured [b]End[/b] on a wide orange center bar on a pale blue background. 45 RPM Catalog Number, Date and Label Identification: 1000 through 1010 (1957): Black label. 1010 through 1045 (1957–1959): White or gray labels. (1010 exists both black and white labels. Also, 1005 and 1008 can be found with white.) 1046 and higher (1959 forward): White or multi-color labels. Compilations of [b]End[/b] artists became available on the [l=Murray Hill Records], [l=Rhino Records (2)] and [l=Collectables] labels.
